Cut-down day has arrived for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
By 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, head coach Liam Coen, general manager James Gladstone and the Jaguars' front office must trim their preseason roster from the 90-man preseason list to the 53-player limit used during the 17-game regular season.
For many Jaguars players, there's no real suspense for cut-down day. But for others, it's a day filled with tension and questions. Who will make the final 53? Who receives a spot on the practice squad? Who might get another shot with a different NFL team?
Follow the Times-Union for updates from cut-down day as the decisions arrive and the news rolls in.
Jaguars deal for QB to back up Trevor Lawrence. Meet the new quarterback
The Jacksonville Jaguars may be starting over with their backup quarterback situation.
According to an NFL
Network report, the Jaguars are acquiring quarterback Quinn Ewers from the Miami Dolphins. The teams are also exchanging 2028 draft picks.
By acquiring Ewers, it is possible the Jaguars weren’t enamored with the play from any of their three backup quarterbacks (Nick Mullens, Carter Bradley or Joey Aguilar) during the preseason games.
Jaguars quarterbacks were a combined 55 of 86 for 623 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions and an 82.7 passer rating in the preseason.
Here's more about the new QB, and the move's implications for the Jags.
Jaguars reportedly waive CB Jabbar Muhammad
The Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly waived cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Muhammad spent the entirety of last season with Jacksonville's practice squad and was a standout during the offseason. He'll be a candidate to return to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
