News flash: There's finally something Travis Hunter can't do on a football field.
During a special teams period on Aug. 19 during the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Carolina Panthers joint practice at the Miller Electric Center, Hunter strolled down to one of the fields where kicker Cam Little was warming up, using a brace to hold the football at the proper angle for field-goal and conversion attempts.
He convinced Little to let him try.
After five attempts, Hunter showed he should stick to being a wide receiver and a cornerback.
Kicking from 27 yards out, Hunter's first attempt was low, worm-burning hook.
His second attempt was a low line drive that was about 4 feet off the ground.
His third attempt got up in the air, but was a wobbly wide-left.
The fourth
try was more of the same.
Finally, Hunter connected. It wasn't pretty, but his fifth attempt meandered over the crossbar.
The fans behind the goalpost erupted, and Hunter did a victory dance. Unfortunately, it was during a period of the practice that the media are not allowed to film or take photos.
Hunter then went back to his normal routine, flying around the football field, mostly on defense.
How many snaps did Travis Hunter have vs. Carolina?
Hunter had 28 snaps on defense and two on offense in the joint practice, holding to the recent pattern of being heavy on defensive snaps.
He had one of the best defensive plays of the day, jumping an out pattern to the Panthers' Tetairoa McMillan and knocking the ball down. He also had McMillan locked down in coverage several times, but McMillan also had his share of good plays in the battle between two of the top young players at their positions.
Hunter was not targeted on his two offensive snaps.
For the season, Hunter has 64 offensive snaps, 165 on defense and one on special teams in 11-on-11 team periods, for 230 total, an average of 14.3 per practice.
