The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to welcome the Carolina Panthers to town for joint practice on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The team is scheduled to conduct a 105 minute practice session with the Panthers from the Miller Electric Center.
They’ll have the chance to go against another team as they continue to prepare for the start of the regular season. It’s an opportunity to get game-like reps in a controlled setting.
Joint practices always bring forth competitive matchups between the two teams and this week isn’t any different.
Here are a few matchups to watch as the Jaguars host the Panthers for joint practice:
Travis Hunter vs. Tetairoa McMillian
The joint practice will pit two of the top players from the 2025
NFL Draft against one another once again.
Travis Hunter and Tetairoa McMillian will get the chance to face off as they did in college and in their NFL debut last season. The first college matchup went to McMillian as he recorded nine catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. He saw less success in the second college matchup, only logging three catches in the game.
The first NFL matchup only saw the two players compete once with Hunter tackling McMillian after a short gain. Joint practice gives the them a chance to go against each other again.
Devin Lloyd vs. Jaguars' rushing attack
Devin Lloyd became one of the top players in the NFL during his time in Jacksonville. Now he returns, getting a chance to go against his former team in joint practice.
Lloyd and Carolina’s defense will be tested against Jacksonville’s rushing attack. The Jaguars have emphasized establishing the run in the preseason, doing so against the Saints in the first game last week. Now, they’ll try to continue on the momentum built as a new defense comes to town.
The Panthers ranked 20th in run defense in 2025 and will look to improve on those marks. Joint practice will be a good measuring stick for both teams.
Brian Thomas Jr. vs. Jaycee Horn
The last time Trevor Lawrence faced the Panthers, Jaycee Horn made a leaping one-handed interception. Lawrence will try to avoid a repeat of that especially as Horn lines up across from Brian Thomas Jr.
Thomas is off to a strong start in the preseason as he looks to put a rough 2025 campaign behind him. He’s gotten behind Jacksonville’s defense often and shown strong contested catch ability, bringing in several difficult catches with defenders glued to him.
Can he do the same with an ascending defensive back in Horn? Horn logged a career-best five interceptions last season as he emerged as a true top-corner for the Panthers.
It’ll be a fun matchup to watch between the two players.
