A Philadelphia home care worker with active arrest warrants is accused of stealing handguns and making unauthorized purchases on the bank card of the client he was assigned to assist.
Bensalem police opened an investigation after a resident reported that their bank card was missing and that multiple unknown debit and credit card charges were made on the account earlier this month. The victim also reported that three firearms stored in a locked metal box in the bedroom were missing, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The unauthorized charges for three days totaled nearly $900 and included rideshare services, food delivery apps and gas stations, the affidavit said. Police alleged that some unauthorized charges went back as far as June, totaling
$2,000.
Some of the charges had the name Kasheef Allen in the description, which was the name of a home caregiver who had been working with the family since May.
Allen, 26, was last at the victim’s apartment July 10, and he was supposed to return the next day, but called to say he was at the hospital and couldn’t keep the appointment, the affidavit said.
But police alleged that Allen, who started working at a Philadelphia agency in April, was terminated July 10. Police also alleged that he had an active protection from abuse order against him and five outstanding bench warrants, the affidavit said.
Detectives found that several locations where the victim’s card was used were for businesses within a mile of Allen’s Philadelphia home, the affidavit said.
Video surveillance footage also allegedly showed a man matching Allen’s description driving a car registered to him at businesses making unauthorized purchases with the victim’s card.
Allen also allegedly made an online Walmart purchase using the victim’s card for beard oil shipped to his home.
Allen was arraigned July 24 before District Judge Michael Gallagher on five felony charges, including financial exploitation of an adult or care dependent person and theft.
He was transferred to Bucks County Correctional Center in lieu of $400,000 bail. He had no legal representation as of July 29, according to the public court docket.
