Week 4 of the high school football season in the Bucks County area is here, and that means the start of conference play for most of our teams.
In other words, this is when things start to get really good.
With that always in mind, let's take a look at 5 Games to Watch for this weekend.
(all games are Friday at 7 p.m. unless noted. Team records in parentheses)
Central Bucks West (3-0) at Pennridge (3-0)
The Bucks, who took over the top spot in our big-school rankings last week, are averaging over 35 points a game, and they've done it against solid teams (Easton of District 11, Wilson-West Lawn of District Three and Souderton).
In their win 35-14 win over the Big Red last week, the Bucks built a 21-0 lead at the half and were up 35-0 before Souderton got on the board.
Senior running backs Nick
Miletto and Braylen Cape led the way with two touchdowns each in the win.
As for Pennridge, the Rams rolled over Council Rock South 27-10 and were led by junior running back Trevor Picciotti, who rushed for a career-high 127 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Pennridge has allowed only two touchdowns in its three games.
Conwell-Egan (2-1) vs. Archbishop Wood (2-1) 8 p.m. (at Wissahickon)
The Eagles righted things last week by dismantling Father Judge 41-7, a week after falling 34-7 to Cardinal O'Hara.
Senior quarterback Aubrey Kimbrough threw for 318 yards and three scores in the win while senior Jaeden Thenor caught three passes for 104 yards and two scores to go along with a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown.
The Vikings, a PIAA Class 3A program, gave defending PIAA Class 6A champion La Salle a go before falling 38-24.
Senior D'Andre Webb led the way for the Vikings with over 100 rushing yards in the loss.
Central Bucks East (2-1) at Neshaminy (2-1)
Both of these teams want to be in the conversation for top dog in the Suburban One League National Conference along with Central Bucks West, North Penn and Pennridge so, even though it's only the first week of conference play, every win (and loss) will be critical.
Last week, the Patriots thumped Bensalem 63-19 in a game where CB East senior running back Mike Price picked up 150 rushing yards on just 12 carries and scored five touchdowns.
Neshaminy bounced back from a loss to Manheim Township of District Three two weeks ago by rallying to beat Quakertown 28-21.
In that one, senior Brock Williams ran for 223 yards and a touchdown and also returned a punt for a score.
Abington (2-1) at Central Bucks South (0-3)
One of the pleasant surprises of the early season has been the play of the Ghosts, who, after dropping their opener to Kennett, have recorded back-to-back shutout wins over Norristown and Council Rock North.
Against the Indians last week, senior quarterback Caleb Smith ran for 205 yards and four touchdowns and also threw for a score in a 38-0 win.
As for the Titans, they'll try to rebound from a 33-0 loss to unbeaten Plymouth Whitemarsh last week. Worth noting is the fact that the Titans' first three opponents, Archbishop Wood, Downingtown West and Plymouth Whitemarsh, are a combined 7-2.
In the loss to the Colonials, CB South senior linebacker Javin Kube recorded a team-high 11 tackles.
Council Rock South (2-1) at Souderton (0-3)
The Golden Hawks look to bounce back from their first loss of the season, a 27-10 defeat at the hands of unbeaten Pennridge last Thursday.
Council Rock South's lone touchdown came in the second quarter when senior quarterback Cannon Benzio, a Naval Academy commit, found junior wideout D.J. Andrzejewski from 39 yards away to tie the game at 7-7.
As for the Big Red, whose first three opponents, Spring-Ford, Pennridge and Central Bucks West, are a combined 9-0, they'll look for their first win after falling to the Bucks 35-14 last week in a game they trailed 35-0 before getting on the board.
