Hard to believe that it's already Week 8 of the high school football season in Bucks County, but time flies and the playoffs will be here pretty darn soon.
For now, though, let's take a look at the Five Games to Watch as the regular season whizzes past (all games Friday at 7 p.m. unless noted):
Roman Catholic (4-2) vs. La Salle (3-4), Saturday, 1 p.m. (at Springfield-Montco)
Here's a game with a couple of twists.
The Cahillites won the PIAA Class 5A state title last year while the Explorers won the Class 6A crown.
A twist? Roman Catholic handed La Salle its only loss of the season in 2025 and now the Cahillites have moved up to Class 6A.
So, another twist, depending on what happens the rest of the way in the regular season, is these two could meet again in the Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division playoffs in a few weeks with
the winner advancing while the loser's season ends.
The Cahillites come in on a roll as they've won five straight games after an 0-2 start to the season.
Last week, they topped Cardinal O'Hara 27-7 as junior running back Trey Montgomery, who is receiving big-time college interest, rushed for a pair of touchdowns to highlight the offensive attack.
As for the Explorers, they were held to just 66 yards of total offense (with only 30 coming on the ground) in a 13-3 loss to archrival Saint Joe's Prep. Senior Jackson Laufer accounted for La Salle's only points with a 34-yard field goal in the second quarter.
North Penn (4-3) at Central Bucks East (4-3)
There's plenty on the line in this one as the sides go into the game ranked eighth (the Knights) and ninth (the Patriots) in the latest PIAA District One Class 6A power-point rankings.
Now, the power points are going to change drastically between now and the end of the regular season in two weeks when we find out who makes, and doesn't make, the 16-team district playoffs, but it's always fun to keep an eye on them, regardless.
The defending district-champion Knights have lost two of their last three games (the losses coming against unbeaten Pennridge and one-loss CB West, who lost to the Rams) with last week's being a 20-8 defeat at the hands of Pennridge.
The Knights, who played without standout senior running back/defensive back Rylei Gray (ankle) last week, scored their lone touchdown early in the fourth quarter on a run by junior Ziyon Smith.
The Patriots won a wild one in overtime last week, 28-27, over Pennsbury.
After the Falcons scored in the extra session, they missed the extra point and CB East then used a Hunter Pulford to Liam Hoey touchdown pass and a Cole Wojnicki point after to secure the win.
West Catholic (6-1) vs. Archbishop Wood (6-1) (at William Tennent)
Despite their Class 2A size, the Burrs are not to be overlooked.
They enter the game on a three-game winning streak as they knocked off Archbishop Carroll, Lansdale Catholic and Archbishop Ryan (all Class 3A programs) and averaged over 31 points a game in doing so.
In last week's 36-20 win over Ryan, senior quarterback Josiah Everett threw three touchdown passes to spark the offense.
Since their only loss in Week 3 against defending PIAA Class 6A champ La Salle, the Vikings have rattled off four straight wins, including a 55-0 crunching of Lansdale Catholic last week.
In that victory, Wood senior running back D'Andre Webb ran for 204 yards and four touchdowns on just nine carries.
Harry S. Truman (3-4) at Hatboro-Horsham (2-5)
Speaking of the district playoffs, the Tigers (18th in the power-point rankings) are trying to claw their way into the tournament and need to move up into the top 16 to do so.
They'll need to bounce back from a 47-14 loss to Upper Moreland against a Hatters team that has won two of its last three games.
Last week, H-H dropped a 30-14 decision to Wissahickon in which it allowed nearly 400 yards of offense. Two weeks ago, the Hatters topped William Tennent after defeating Lower Merion in Week 5.
Council Rock South (3-3) at Bensalem (2-5)
The Golden Hawks, who did not play last week because it was their week to play Cheltenham, returned in style with a 42-7 win over Upper Dublin that moved them to 15th in the power-point rankings in Class 6A.
CR South junior running back/defensive back Jerry Rogers led the way against the Cardinals as he rushed for a pair of touchdowns and also returned a fumble 55 yards for a score.
The Owls crunched Dobbins Tech of the Philadelphia Public League 49-6 last week in a game they led 42-0 at halftime.
Bensalem, which forced eight turnovers, was led offensively by junior running back Brennan Farnsworth, who rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries. He was one of 13 Owls that ran the ball in the win, and he's rushed for 100-plus yards in six straight games.
