Bucks County is expanding voter access to one-stop mail-in voting ahead of the upcoming Nov. 3 midterm general election.
At their meeting Sept. 9, board of elections officials approved the creation of four temporary satellite election offices expected to open in early October and the expansion of the number of voting locations in the county to seven.
At the offices voters may apply in-person for their mail-in ballots and receive them in the same visit. The locations are also to handle voter registration requests and a secure ballot drop box.
The new temporary offices are to be located at:
- Bucks County Community College, Upper Bucks Campus1 Hillendale Road, Perkasie.
- Bucks County Community College, Main CampusThe Gateway Center275 Swamp Road, Newtown Township.
- Bucks County Community College, Lower Bucks Campus1304 Veterans Highway, Bristol Township.
- Warminster Township Free Library1076 Emma Lane, Warminster.
The hours of operation will vary by location and will be announced in
the coming weeks, according to county officials.
The additional on-demand mail-in voting locations for November comes two years after then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and other Republicans sued the county alleging it “turned away” voters in line to use the one-stop mail in voting option after days of hours-long lines at the three available sites leading up to the voting deadline.
Bucks County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Trauger ordered the county to extend the deadline by three days for on-demand voting.
In addition to the four temporary sites, mail-in ballots are to continue to be available at the main board of elections office in Doylestown and its satellite offices at the county’s government services centers in Quakertown and Bristol Township.
“On-demand” mail-in voting is just one way for voters in Bucks County to cast their ballot, and voters choosing to vote by mail are not required to apply in person for their ballot.
Voters may instead request their ballot online by visiting the Pennsylvania Voter Services website or mail a paper application to the board of elections.
