More than 50 students from Bucks County area schools were named semifinalists in the 72nd Annual National Merit Scholarship Program on Sept. 9.
More than 16,000 students achieved this ranking nationwide.
"These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for about 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth approximately $24 million that will be offered next spring," according to the nonprofit that runs the program.
The goals of the program are "honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence," according to the group.
