Breast cancer prevention advocates and nutrition experts will lead the fourth annual Let’s Beat Breast Cancer rally from 2-4 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Peddler’s Village in Lahaska as breast cancer is slightly up in Bucks County, organizers said.
“Our message is one of prevention,” rally organizer and licensed Food for Life instructor Susan Schneider said in a news release. “Few people realize the power of their plate, that what they eat and drink can determine the quality of their health. We can decrease our chances of developing breast cancer with lifestyle modifications.”
According to the National Cancer Institute, Bucks County will have approximately 655 new cases of female breast cancer in 2026, at a rate slightly higher than the Pennsylvania average.
"The breast cancer incidence rate in Bucks County has shown a slight increasing trend over the last five years. In the United States, approximately 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in her lifetime," according to organizers.
At the Saturday event, the Neshaminy High School Marching Band and Philadelphia’s Positive Movement Entertainment will perform. The rally comes ahead of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Led by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a health advocacy nonprofit of 17,000 doctors, free Let’s Beat Breast Cancer events are held in dozens of locations around the world throughout September and October.
The Physicians Committee encourages people to reduce breast cancer risk by eating whole food, exercising regularly, limiting alcohol and maintaining a healthy weight.
On Saturday, licensed local instructors Karina Pearse and Dawna Hankins will join Schneider to talk about research-driven lifestyle modifications to reduce breast cancer risk. Certified Hoola-fit instructor Angela Reitter will do a demonstration.
