A greater police presence is anticipated at Central Bucks West High School sporting events after an estimated 300 juveniles disrupted downtown Doylestown Borough on Friday night.
On Tuesday police said they are continuing to follow leads involving reports of fighting, noise and other inappropriate behavior
following the Sept. 25 CB West vs. North Penn game at the West Court Street stadium. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday, police said.In a community message sent to parents Tuesday, Central Bucks Superintendent Joanna Wexler addressed the incident, noting it occurred off school property and the district cannot verify how many individuals involved were district students.
CB West home football games typically draw additional crowds into the
center of town, but police have not indicated if the individuals involved in Friday night's incidents attended the game or if the game played any part in the problems. West bested North Penn 28-26.
For now, the district has arranged for increased police presence during, and after all evening athletic events at CB West, Wexler said. CB West has an away game this Friday. Middle and high school administrators will also be reinforcing with students the behavior expectations during on and off campus events.
In her message Wexler also asked parents and guardians to help reinforce behavior expectations and responsibilities that come with attending school events without parent supervision.
“To this end, we remind parents and guardians that middle school students must be accompanied by an adult at all times,” Wexler said. “Please talk with your children about the importance of behaving safely and respectfully on and off school property.”
As of Sept. 12 Central Bucks Regional police said officers responded to more than 116 disturbances involving juveniles this year, including underage drinking, thefts and assaults.
Officers have been issuing warnings when possible, however, so far 21 juveniles have been arrested, police said.
