A ground stop on Monday that halted flights and disrupted travel plans at numerous airports resulted in about 1,000 canceled flights and, as of Tuesday afternoon, 6,000 delays. The stoppage included Philadelphia International, Newark and JFK, among several others.
According to a Philly airport spokesperson, the ground stop for incoming flights was lifted at about 2:45 p.m. Monday, and arriving flights were delayed by an average of 212 minutes. Departures saw delays averaging 60 minutes.
Of almost 900 scheduled flights Monday, there were 370 delays and 130 cancellations Monday afternoon.

According to Flight Aware,34 flights were delayed as of 9 a.m. Tuesday and 30 were canceled.
Why were flights grounded yesterday?
According to Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, the
ground stop was the result of a telecom outage after a fiber line was accidentally cut into in New Jersey.
"This incident underscores the need for additional funding to modernize aging infrastructure and prevent disruptions like this in the future," he wrote on X.
