A new superintendent has been selected to serve Bristol Township School District.
On Thursday, Oct. 22, district officials announced Amy Coleman was chosen to replace outgoing Superintendent Michael Nitti, who will be retiring at the end of the year.
Coleman’s appointment will be made official at the Oct. 27 board of school directors meeting, and her term will begin Jan. 1, 2027, according to a district press release. As a longtime leader in Bristol Township School District, she currently serves as chief academic officer and director of curriculum and instruction.

Nitti informed the school board in June of his intention to retire at the start of the New Year. Following his announcement, the board spent the summer and early fall conducting a comprehensive
review and interview process of internal candidates, the release said.
In the statement, board President James Morgan expressed appreciation for Nitti’s leadership over the years and wished him the best in his retirement.
“The Board has been pleased with the progress made across the district over the past five years, and believes that we have several talented administrators who are prepared to lead the Bristol Township School District,” Morgan said.
“After completing our vetting process, we were particularly impressed by Mrs. Coleman’s leadership, accomplishments, and commitment to our students and community. We are excited to see her step into the superintendent role.”
Bristol Township School District to host meet and greet in November
A community meet and greet with Coleman will be held Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at Franklin Middle School on Mill Creek Road in Levittown.
During the event, Coleman will discuss the transition and her vision for the district, while answering questions from the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
Who is Amy Coleman?
Coleman first joined Bristol Township School District serving as supervisor of elementary curriculum and instruction in 2021. Two years later, she was named chief academic officer, overseeing instructional strategy, supervising principals and curriculum supervisors and managing instruction budgets and federal program funding for the school district.
According to the release, Coleman’s accomplishments during her five years with the district have included sustained gains in student growth, transitioning the district to structured literacy, and designing and launching a multi-tiered framework of proactive supports to help students succeed. She also brought attention to the district’s literacy work when she presented at the Improving School Performance Conference and served as a Pennsylvania Literacy Coalition panelist.
In addition, the release said Coleman has more than 12 years of Pennsylvania public school administrator experience, which includes serving as director of curriculum and special programs at Union City Area School District and assistant Principal at Erie Public Schools, where, in 2017, she was named National Outstanding Assistant Principal of Pennsylvania.
Her academic degrees and certifications include a Pennsylvania Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from Delaware Valley University, a master’s degree in literacy with reading specialist certification from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and principal and curriculum supervisor certifications from Gannon University.
She is currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership at Youngstown State University and expects to complete her doctorate in summer 2027, the release added.
