The Monster-Mania convention in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, is one of the top horror culture conventions. The event has been around since 2003 and this year will feature Langhorne native and actress Catherine Corcoran.
Corcoran is best known for her starring roles in “Terror” and “Return to Nuke ‘Em High” and also appeared in “Gossip Girl” and “The Good Wife.” Monster Mania continues through Sunday at the Doubletree Hotel and tickets are still available.
Before appearing in these larger projects, Corcoran regularly performed at the Bucks County Playhouse and later commuted to New York for auditions while still attending Council Rock South High School.
Corcoran has become a regular in the
horror genre, but that wasn’t always her plan. Her first star role was in the horror film “Return to Nuke ‘Em High,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
Ever since, Corcoran has remained in the genre and has continued to land roles in horror movies.
“What I fell in love with was how fearless the genre can be,” said Corcoran. “Horror and thrillers give you permission to go places other kinds of films sometimes aren’t able to.”
Recently, Corcoran had the opportunity to be part of "Best Friends Forever," a queer horror comedy that looks at the weird things our body does. On that set, she had the opportunity to work with former "Saturday Night Live" star Bobby Moynihan and Eliza Bennett.
She has also expanded into the production side of the business with her own company, FareStream Pictures, as she continues to act and write.
"I really believe in our slate and after spending so many years working in independent film, I've become really interested in helping create the kinds of sets and opportunities I always wanted to see more of as an actor and crew member," said Corcoran.
Corcoran will be at Monster-Mania through the entire weekend snapping photos, signing autographs, and interacting with fans. Her career has taken her on so many adventures across the world, but Corcoran is happy to return close to where it all began.
"My job has gifted me opportunities to travel all over the world, so there's something particularly meaningful about getting to celebrate genre with the community that helped shape me," said Corcoran.
