No criminal charges will be filed against two Bucks County corrections officers involved with a loaded gun being brought into the jail earlier this year following a Bucks County District Attorney's Office investigation.
A Bucks County DA spokesman Manuel Gamiz confirmed that the county investigation found that no evidence of a crime occurred.
Bucks County spokesman James O'Malley confirmed the officers are not longer county employees. Following the June 27 incident, the officers were "locked out," meaning they couldn't return to work.
Neither the DA's office or the county have provided details about what happened, but a source with knowledge of the incident
said that a corrections officer allegedly forgot to remove a firearm from his lunch bag before reporting for work.
A second corrections employee responsible for screening corrections employees before they enter the jail allegedly missed the weapon in the bag, according to the source, who didn't want to be identified.
The weapon remained in the lunch bag stored in a refrigerator until another employee saw it later that day, immediately confiscated it and notified superiors, the source said.
Weapons aren't allowed in the Bucks County Correctional Center. Corrections employees are subject to physical screenings of their belongings and persons before they enter the jail, but they aren't subjected to metal detectors, body scans or x-ray screenings like regular jail visitors.
