In our first preseason big-school poll, it was La Salle atop the list of Bucks County area football schools.

Two weeks ago, Central Bucks West held down the top spot.

Now, it's North Penn's turn to be No. 1, as the Knights move up from No. 3 in our previous rankings.

Who will be No. 1 team in two weeks when we release our next rankings? Will North Penn stay atop the mountain, or will a new team take the spot?

We'll figure that out then. For now, let's take a look at the top five (plus some other teams to watch).

1. North Penn (3-1)

The Knights, whose only blemish came in Week 2 against a very good Central York (District Three) team, are averaging 36 points a game and are coming off a 35-7 win over Pennsbury last week in which they had their 35 points by the end of the first

quarter.

The win was also the 250th for NP head coach Dick Beck, with all of them coming with the Knights in his 25 seasons at the helm.

Senior Rylei Gray, a Mercyhurst commit, has been his usual spark on offense (eight touchdowns in four games) and in the secondary.

2. Pennridge (4-0)

The Rams, who have yielded only three touchdowns all season, knocked off former No. 1 CB West 14-7 last week when senior Sean Leuthe hauled in a 36-yard touchdown pass from junior Aiden Tetkowski in the game's final minute.

They play at No. 1 North Penn on Oct. 9.

The Knights handed Pennridge its last loss, that coming in the PIAA District One Class 6A title game last season, by a 21-14 score.

3. Central Bucks West (3-1)

The Bucks, who host No. 1 North Penn on Friday, opened the season with three straight wins before the 14-7 loss to unbeaten Pennridge last week.

Senior fullback/linebacker Nick Miletto, an Army commit, has rushed for nearly 400 yards and has 34 tackles and five tackles for loss.

4. La Salle (1-3)

The defending PIAA Class 6A champion Explorers play 2-0 Salesianum (Del.) on Saturday, their third out of state opponent of the season after Paramus Catholic (N.J.) and Calvert Hall (Md.)

Salesianum has outscored its two opponents, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy and Haverford School (both of the Inter-Academic League), by a combined 65-0.

La Salle lost to the Cardinals 27-14 last week. Their lone win came two weeks ago against Archbishop Wood, by a 38-24 margin.

5. Upper Moreland (4-0)

The Golden Bears, who were 6-5 a year ago, are allowing just over nine points a game while scoring just under 30 an outing.

Last week, UM fell behind Penn Wood 6-0 early before reeling off 21 unanswered points on the way to a 21-12 victory.

Senior running back/linebacker Santino Rodriguez sparked the win with an interception return for a touchdown and a short touchdown run that sealed the victory.

After a non-league game at West Chester Henderson on Friday, the Golden Bears host Wissahickon in a key SOL American Conference matchup next Friday (Oct. 2).
