The historic Newtown Theatre has turned to a familiar face as its next leader.
Peter Hall, of Newtown Borough, will take the helm as executive director Nov. 1. Andy Smith, who has held the position for the last decade, will retire Dec. 31.

Hall has served on the theatre’s board for the past two years and brings a 20-year background in technology and design, according to a news release. He has "worked with museums, cultural institutions, and nonprofits, most recently at Philadelphia-based digital agency Bluecadet, helping mission-driven organizations reach and engage their audiences."
“From helping start the concert series to bringing my kids to The Polar Express every December, the Newtown Theatre has become part of my family’s story,” says Hall.
“Andy and the team have built something special, and I’m excited to help write its next chapter with the supporters who make the theatre one of the gems of our community.”
Hall is also a guitarist and music producer who records other artists through his studio, Breakneck Sound, and he played a key role in developing the theatre’s live music program nearly a decade ago, according to the release.
“Pete helped bring music to our stage when we were looking to broaden our programming, and he’s been involved ever since,” Smith said. “Most importantly, he understands what this theatre means to generations of Bucks Countians. I can’t think of anyone better to lead it forward.”
