The 44-year-old man whom a Corpus Christi police officer shot on Sept. 5 has been released from the hospital and charged in connection with the incidents that preceded the shooting, according to the police department.
Blaise Hermsen was released on Sept. 12 from the hospital where he was receiving medical care while in police custody, the Corpus Christi Police Department said in an online post.
On Sept. 5, police responded to a report of Hermsen shooting at a woman's dog and threatening the woman with a weapon in the 300 block of Parr Street, the department said in a post that night. Officers later found Hermsen near 300 Port Ave., but he eluded them on his bicycle, the post said.
When more officers arrived, Hermsen stopped and produced a handgun,
and an officer then shot him, according to police.
Hermsen was transported to the police station to be formally interviewed by detectives with the police department’s Criminal Investigations Division and then transported to the City Detention Center to be booked.
Hermsen is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a police officer, discharge of firearm in certain municipalities, possession of drug paraphernalia and evading arrest.
The combined bail amount is $50,500 for seven out of 10 charges, according to the Nueces County Sheriff's Office.
Three of the charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer, are without bail.
