A Robstown man died in a three-vehicle crash after failing to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Farm to Market 2826 and County Road 77 on Aug. 20, according to a news release from the Texas Department
of Public Safety.
Raynaldo Garcia, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 21-year-old passenger was transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in critical condition.
Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the crash in the Robstown area at 12:20 a.m.
Troopers determined through a preliminary investigation that Garcia was driving south with the 21-year-old passenger in a 2023 Kia Sportage on County Road 77 approaching the intersection with Farm to Market 2826.
A 53-year-old man driving a 2024 Mack truck tractor towing a 2011 step tanker was traveling west on FM 2826 through the intersection, the news release said. Garcia failed to stop and struck the rear of the trailer and was dragged before separating.
A 76-year-old man driving a 2003 Mercury SPG was traveling east on FM 2826. His vehicle sustained minor damage from the crash debris.
The 53-year-old driver of the Mack and the 76-year-old driver of the Mercury were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers assigned to the Corpus Christi Highway Patrol Office.
