The Nueces County Commissioners Court approved a tax rate increase for fiscal year 2026-27 on Sept. 9.
The total property tax rate will be $0.302706 per $100 of assessed value. Last year's total property tax rate was $0.289789 per $100 of assessed value.
The median value of a homestead property in Nueces County is $186,808 for tax year 2026. For this median homeowner, the tax bill would amount to about $565.
The county's median homestead property value increased compared to the previous year.
Commissioners Mike Pusley, Joe A. Gonzalez and John Marez and County Judge Connie Scott voted for the new tax rate. Commissioner Brent Chesney voted in opposition.
The Nueces County Hospital District has a separate tax rate. The Commissioners Court set the hospital
district tax rate at $0.088501 per $100 of assessed value.
The commissioners also approved the county budget, which includes over $5.5 million more in property tax revenues.
The budget includes a cost-of-living adjustment for county employees.
