Candidate seeking district office will be write-in for at-large race

The pool of Corpus Christi City Council candidates may have ticked back up by one since the ballot name drawing on Aug. 21.

Jennifer Gracia, who had initially filed to run as a District 1 candidate, was found ineligible for the seat because her residential address was not within the district’s boundary, according to an email sent by City Secretary Rebecca Huerta to the Caller-Times mid-afternoon Aug. 21.

However, Gracia filed a form with the city secretary’s office late Aug. 21, declaring herself a write-in candidate for the City Council's at-large race, Huerta wrote in an Aug. 24 email to the Caller-Times.

At-large candidates are required to be residents of Corpus Christi, but they are not required to live in any specific area of Corpus Christi.

Besides Gracia, 45 people are vying for nine City Council seats, including the mayoral office.
