What to know for 2026
The Pirates battled in a stout district with Cuero and Sinton last season, making up one of the toughest districts in Region IV, advancing to the regional semifinals. QB Reid Snyder returns, with a largely new supporting cast in the backfield and six starters back overall. Similarly, Starling will be tasked with leading an inexperienced unit up front, but the expectations are once again high for the Pirates, as they move into a large District 16-4A DII
after Sinton moved to Class 3A. Lincoln Mitchell and George Solis lead the defense with four returning starters.

"Reid is a leader. He was voted a team captain in the spring. He knows the offense now and he is a tough competitor. We can't keep him off the field. He wants to be on defense. He wants to be on special teams. When we have kids like that, we are going to win some ballgames. Reid and Tanner Starling are the anchor of our offense. Tanner can play anywhere on the line. We have to find 11 more and be able to jell."
Soza on the challenges of finding the right mix before a long district slate
"We have six weeks and three games to solidify your spots. We've challenged our boys. We are going to play our best 11. Whether it is just 11 or it is 35. We are going to allow those kids to see who are going to take those spots. We have a lot of holes to fill. We are trying to get ready for district. The things that we do take timing on offense and chemistry on defense. Those three games will be important for us."
