A nearly 1,000-home neighborhood may be coming to Corpus Christi’s Westside.
Although there were limited details discussed in the City Council’s meeting Sept. 8, a rezoning request shed some light on the proposed development.
The rezoning, approved in the first of two votes by the council, would recategorize about 134 acres — an area bounded by Holly Road, Greenwood Drive, Crosstown Expressway and Silverberry Drive — from commercial or agricultural uses to residential.
Yvette Wallace, interim director of Development Services, referenced it as the large property behind Walmart and the movie theater.
As many as 920 homes could be constructed under the proposal, according to city officials.
The homes are expected to be sold for $200,000 to $300,000,
Wallace said.
The request, according to a presentation, “is part of a larger mixed-use development.”
A zoning report states that the plans include one dozen commercial lots, one of which would be for a multifamily development, in the area surrounding the subdivision.
