Jalapeños with salmonella? See latest recalls of food, supplements

Here are some of the latest product recalls that may affect Corpus Christi residents. 

This article includes recent recalls for products sold by retailers with Corpus Christi locations, including H-E-B, Walmart and Target, as well as some recalled products that were sold only online.

Additionally, some retailers, including H-E-B, Target and Walmart, maintain lists of recalled products sold at their stores and websites. 

Products with jalapeños recalled due to salmonella 

Due to potential salmonella contamination, Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling products containing jalapeños distributed

by Coast Citrus Distributors grown in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. In healthy persons, salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can cause more severe illnesses like arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis. 

The recalled jalapeños were distributed in 26 states including Texas, including in products sold at stores such as Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Kroger, Stop and Shop, and Hannaford. H-E-B is another store that received the recalled foods. 

There have been two to four illnesses in Texas, according to an Aug. 10 update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

Chipotle also received the product but switched its supplier for affected stores on July 20 and is no longer serving the affected product. The CDC and FDA “do not consider there to be a current ongoing risk from these establishments to consumers in this outbreak.” 

The jalapeños were used in products including: 

• Taco Dip 20 oz sold at Target stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 12-13 
• Mango Pico De Gallo 11 oz sold at Target stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 8-13 
• Spicy guacamole 13 oz sold at Target stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 7-13 
• Pico de gallo 16 oz sold at Target stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 7-14 
• Authentic guacamole 13 oz sold at Target stores with "best used by" dates Aug.7-13 
• Mild pico de gallo 10 oz sold at Walmart stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 8-16 
• Shake Rattle Bowl Southwest Chicken sold at H-E-B stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 7-15 
• Higher Harvest for H-E-B Chicken & Beef Chimichurri sold at H-E-B stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 6, 9, 13 
• Higher Harvest for H-E-B Creamy Cilantro Chicken sold at H-E-B stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 4, 5, 8, 11, 12 
• Meal Simple Pork Carnitas Bowl sold at H-E-B stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 3, 7, 10, 14 
• Meal Simple Chicken & Rice with Cilantro Jalapeno Sauce sold at H-E-B stores with "best used by" dates Aug. 3, 7,10, 14 

Other recently recalled foods 

• Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry 4 oz. (113 g) pouches sold at Target retail stores between March 6 and July 13 due to packaging defects that may result in food-grade plastic in the finished product.
• Iceberg lettuce distributed by Taylor Farms de Mexico due to potential cyclospora contamination. The product was distributed June 29-July 16 in 27 states including Texas.

Recalled drugs or supplements sold online or distributed nationwide 

• Food to Live green powder products, including wheatgrass powder, organic spirulina powder, algae powder mix and organic supergrass powder, due to potential salmonella contamination 
• Rooted in Rare aquafaba powder distributed online at Amazon.com and rootedinrare.com June 2025 to July 2026 due to undeclared egg
• Morphine Sulfate Injection USP, Simplist 2 mg/1 mL due to a label mix-up 
• One lot of Papaverine Hydrochloride Injection, USP, 60 mg/2 mL single dose vial due to the presence of particulate matter identified as glass or paraformaldehyde 
• Three lots of Cyclophosphamide for Injection, USP, 1g/vial and 2g/vial due to the presence of particulate matter identified as steel 
• Cefazolin in Dextrose Injection distributed March 25 through July 30 in the U.S. due to cardboard found in the solution 
• Four lots of Cetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets USP 5 mg due to cross contamination 
• Zen Principle brand Moringa Capsules dietary supplement sold online at Amazon.com and zenprinciple.com December 2025 to July 2026 due to potential salmonella contamination
