Most school districts in the Coastal Bend improved in their state-given accountability scores for the 2025-26 school year.
The Texas Education Agency released the most recent public school accountability ratings on Aug. 14.
The A-F ratings are based on student performance and growth on State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exams, as well as measures of college and career readiness. They measure how well schools are preparing students.
For campuses that repeatedly fall short, earning a failing grade from the state for too many years in a row, the consequences can include the potential of a state takeover, as has happened in school districts such as the Houston and Fort Worth independent school districts.
Across Nueces, San Patricio, Aransas
and Kleberg counties, the highest-rated public school districts include the Santa Gertrudis, Bishop and London school districts, all earning A ratings. The only districts that earned a D rating, not including charter schools, were the Robstown, West Oso and Kingsville school districts.
The districts that improved the most include the Agua Dulce, Aransas Pass, Kingsville and Taft school districts.
At the campus level, some Corpus Christi campuses rose above the rest.
Here are the A-rated public high schools in Corpus Christi:
- Collegiate High School, Corpus Christi ISD
- Branch Academy, Corpus Christi ISD
- Veterans Memorial High School, Corpus Christi ISD
- London High School, London ISD
- West Oso High School, West Oso ISD
- Calallen High School, Calallen ISD
- Flour Bluff High School, Flour Bluff ISD
Coles High School, an alternative school, also earned an A under alternative rating standards.
The A-rated elementary and middle schools include Windsor Park Elementary School, Creekside Elementary School, London Middle School, Baker Middle School and London Elementary School.
For the second consecutive year, no Corpus Christi ISD school earned an F rating.
"We know our students are much more than an accountability score," Corpus Christi ISD Superintendent Roland Hernandez said in a news release. "We take this information, along with a comprehensive view of our students and their education, to help us strategically plan for a school year that will shape the future of our students and our community."
Corpus Christi schools that improved their accountability ratings the most over the last year include London Elementary School, which jumped 13 points and two letter grades from a C to an A, and Corpus Christi ISD's Smith Elementary School, King High School and Cullen Place Elementary School, each jumping 10 points and a letter grade.
When campuses earn failing ratings for too many consecutive years, school districts are at risk for a state takeover. No Coastal Bend school districts are currently at risk of a takeover, though the Kingsville and Robstown districts have had unacceptable schools for more than one year.
Kingsville ISD earned a 66 for 2025-26, successfully jumping a letter grade from the year previous. In 2024-25, the district earned a 59.
In Kingsville, H.M. King High School earned a 75. Harrel Elementary School earned a 69. Gillett Middle School, Harvey Elementary School and Perez Elementary School earned F ratings.
In Robstown ISD, Robstown Early College High School earned an 82. Seale Junior High School earned a 59, San Pedro Fine Arts Academy elementary school earned a 45, Lotspeich Leadership Academy elementary school earned a 59 and Robert Driscoll Jr. STEM Academy earned a 67.
Robstown ISD earned a 68, up from 63 the previous year.
In a letter to families, Robstown ISD Superintendent Marc Puig wrote that the district has work ahead of it, acknowledging San Pedro Fine Arts Academy's significant decline from 83 to 45.
"So, this year must be about consistency," Puig wrote. "First, myself, getting better, and all classrooms getting better. Every one of us needs to improve, not because we're not good enough, but because we can be even better."
