AC issues reported at some Corpus Christi ISD schools since year began

Since school began earlier this month, several Corpus Christi ISD campuses have struggled to keep the air conditioning on.

"With our continued, extreme heat, we have had a variety of minor and significant air conditioning issues to address at a handful of campuses since the school year began, including at Adkins, Grant and Kaffie Middle Schools," according to a Corpus Christi Independent School District statement shared with the Caller-Times.

According to National Weather Service forecasts, the heat index was 106 degrees on Aug. 25.

Heat indexes as high as 110 are possible Aug. 26 and Aug. 27.

"Any time we have an air conditioning issue, the affected school keeps families informed regarding the progress of repairs as well as any changes to the classroom

location," the statement says.

The completion time for each air conditioning repair project varies, according to the statement.

"In many cases, we are able to rely on alternate chillers and learning continues without interruption," the statement reads. "We thank our Facilities and Maintenance staff and our contractors for their diligence in making repairs during these challenging conditions."

Campuses have suffered air conditioning challenges in previous school years, as well.

"We appreciate everyone's patience as we work in challenging conditions to ensure our staff and students have a safe, comfortable learning environment," the statement reads.
