Beach parking permits will nearly double in cost next year if new plans are backed by a state agency.
The Corpus Christi City Council formally endorsed increasing the annual permit cost from $12 to $20 in its second vote Aug. 11.
The increase is prompted by rising costs for beach services, according to city staff.
There is an agreement brokered earlier this year between Port Aransas, Nueces County and the city to raise the fees, according to a memo. The three local governments have recognized the same beach permit since 2002.
An updated Beach Management Plan and Beach User Fee Plan must go to the Texas General Land Office for final approval, according to a city memo.
Part of the process is a 30-day public comment period, it states.
Should the state
agency endorse the amended plans, the new permit fee would become effective in January 2027, according to the documents.
