A path has been initially cleared for new development to grow the London area by another two businesses: a popular discount retail store and a drive-thru, walk-up restaurant.
The Corpus Christi City Council on Sept. 8 voted 8-1 to annex and rezone the two properties — currently categorized as farm-rural — representing some of the early steps in the process to bring plans to fruition.
Mayor Paulette Guajardo, who had been unable to participate in city-related business during a 30-day suspension, abstained.
The council’s vote sets the table for a proposed Dollar General location and a new fast-food restaurant, La Michoacana.
If plans move forward as proposed, an 8,500-square-foot
Dollar General would be constructed on a property bounded by Farm-to-Market 43, County Road 47 and State Highway 286.
La Michoacana is proposed to be built on property at the corner of County Road 47 and Farm-to-Market 43.
A second and final vote is expected for the upcoming weeks.
