Twenty-five Texas Public schools have been named Lone Star Ribbon Schools for outstanding academic performance — on that list is one Corpus Christi campus.
The Lone Star Ribbon Schools program replaced the National Blue Ribbon Schools program last year after the U.S. Department of Education ended the federal school recognition program.
Corpus Christi Independent School District's Faye Webb Elementary School was named as a Texas Lone Star Ribbon School on Sept. 17.
The state also recognized schools in Aledo, Brazosport, Dallas, Edinburgh, Laredo, Lindale, Raymondville, Roma, Rio Grande City, Stratford, Spring, Texas City, Tidehaven, United, Yseleta and Wellington school districts, as well as a Sugar Land charter school.
"Young Texans are the future
of our state, and it is critical that they have access to a high-quality education," Gov. Greg Abbott said in a Sept. 17 news release. "We will invest in the students, teachers, staff, and parents who are essential to building a bigger, brighter Texas for generations to come."
Campuses are eligible to be Lone Star Ribbon Schools based on reading and mathematics, excellence across student groups and measurable improvement in achievement gaps.
