What to know for 2026
The Sinton football team is coming off a historic campaign after advancing to the Class 4A Division II state semifinals during the 2025 season. The Pirates will begin a new chapter after moving to Class 3A Division I after realignment. Even with the departure of star running back and Caller-Times MVP Mykha Green, the Pirates return
multiple key players, who will try to keep the momentum going in 2026. Sinton's Quincy Bess, who passed for more than 1,500 yards last season, returns for another season under center and will look to playmakers such as running back Marcos Zapata, who looks to have a breakout season. Other key players will be Austin Mutchler, Derrick Garza and Chase Bess, who could make an impact down the stretch. Quintin Rhines is another playmaker that head coach Michael Troutman could get serious production from as he emerges for his junior season.
Head coach Michael Troutman on the 2026 season
"We have a phrase that we use around here (at Sinton). We play for those who came before us, and we continue to set the standard for those who are coming up from behind. We’re setting the standards for those younger guys coming up. This is what we are, Sinton Pirate football, and it means something. It’s very important to us. It meant something that we were able to make this community proud and represent Sinton with pride and integrity and everything that it stands for.”
Quarterback Quincy Bess on the 2026 season
"It feels great. I’ve been waiting for this ever since we lost that game in Houston. That’s all we know how to do is play football, and it’s just exciting to be back working hard with my brothers, It’s very fun, and I’m very excited for this season. I think what I like about this group is we’re more of a put-your-head-down and just work type of group. Just do what we’re told and give 100% every time.”
Offensive lineman Jason Valdez on the 2026 season
"It feels really great. Coming off last year, with how it ended, we’re hungry for more, and it feels really good to be back on the field with my brothers and my friends. I’m really excited for this year. We had some great players last year, but we also have some great players this year. We have some returning guys who are going to be key players and some new people who are going to fill in the spots that were filled last year. I believe in everybody we have, and I feel like it’s going to be a great season.”
