Corpus Christi ISD's top leader has been named a state finalist for a Superintendent of the Year honor.
The Texas Association of School Boards has selected five Texas public school superintendents as finalists for the 2026 Superintendent of the Year award from across the state.
Roland Hernandez of the Corpus Christi Independent School District, previously selected as one of 16 regional nominees, is one of the finalists.
Finalists were chosen after interviews by a committee of Texas school board members. According to a Corpus Christi ISD news release, committee members cited "Hernandez’s strong advocacy for public education and his ability to lead through complex challenges with a clear sense of shared responsibility and purpose on behalf of students."
The final winner will be announced Oct. 10.
