More than 100 people participated in the 16th annual Paddle for Parkinson's on North Padre Island on Sept. 5.
The event started as a fishing tournament called Catch the Cure in 2007 to raise awareness and funding for Parkinson's disease, but changed four years later to Paddle for Parkinson's to involve a wider range of participants.
People in the event can race with a kayak, stand-up paddle board, fast vessel or slow vessel.
Since 2007, the annual event has raised more than $196,500. For more information on the event, visit catchthecure.org.
