If your cupboard is bursting with old medications, this is the right time to safely offload the items.
Corpus Christi-area residents may dispose of unneeded or expired medications at two locations on Oct. 24, known as a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, according to an Oct. 6 news release.
It offers a recommended alternative to some of the methods patients use to get rid of unused prescriptions.
Two that should not be done: flushing old medications into the plumbing system or throwing them away in the trash, where someone who is not prescribed the medication may be able to take it.
As shown in the news release, locations in which the medications may be dropped off anonymously
are:
- Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, 1702 Horne Road, Corpus Christi
- CVS Pharmacy, 1000 N. First St., Robstown
Liquids, such as cough syrups, should be dropped off in their original packaging with the cap tightly screwed, according to the news release, and sharp items — including needles — and illegal drugs will not be accepted.
