A third sitting Corpus Christi City Council member has thrown her hat into the ring for the mayor’s office.
City Councilwoman Kaylynn Paxson filed to run in the race for the city’s top representative on Aug. 14, records show.
Paxson is approaching the end of her first term as representative of District 4, the majority of which comprises Padre Island and Flour Bluff.

She will face incumbent Mayor Paulette Guajardo, as well as fellow council member Gil Hernandez in the contest.
Paxson, as mayor pro tem, is currently serving as mayor of Corpus Christi, pending Guajardo’s return from a 30-day suspension recently issued by a six-member council tribunal related to a controversial
award of $2 million in tax incentives.
Below is the full list of mayoral candidates, the names in order as shown in city secretary records.
- Guajardo
- David Ainsworth Sr.
- Chelise Hyatt
- John Calkusic
- Dave Heasley
- Paxson
- Davian N. Gomez
