If you’re looking for a new four-legged friend, the next few days may be the right time to move forward with a rescue.
Through Sept. 30, fees are being waived for dog and cat adoptions at the city of Corpus Christi Animal Care Services, according to a Sept. 17 news release.
The initiative is being backed by the Bissell Pet Foundation, which has previously partnered with the city as part of an “Empty the Shelters” event.
The idea behind the program is for the foundation to cover the costs of adoption fees to make “it more affordable for residents to welcome a new pet into their families,” according to the news release.
“’Empty the Shelters’ helps provide relief by encouraging adoption and creating much-needed space for pets awaiting homes,” it states,
noting that prior to adoption, the cats and dogs are sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped.
Adoption fees are typically $25, according to the Animal Care Services website.
About 111 dogs and 29 cats were shown on the page as adoptable as of early afternoon on Sept. 25.
Residents interested in bringing a new pet into their lives can visit the city’s shelter, located at 2626 Holly Road, between the hours of noon and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, according to the news release.
Adoption visits end at 5 p.m., according to the Animal Care Services website.
