The court records related to the arrest of Corey Bellino, a Corpus Christi ISD teacher and coach, accuse him of a history of inappropriate relationships with underage students.
Corpus Christi police patrol and gang unit officers arrested Bellino during a traffic stop on Aug. 19 after obtaining an arrest warrant for a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault of a child.
Bellino at the time of the reported assault was a career and technical education teacher and girls wrestling coach at Carroll High School.
He has been on administrative leave since Aug. 10 and the district will recommend to the school board that his employment be terminated, Carroll Principal Jenifer Guerra-Leos said in an Aug. 19 letter to school staff and families.
If the recommendation
is approved, Bellino has 15 days to request a review of the decision, as provided by Texas law.
The district is also reporting the information to the Texas Education Agency, as required by law.
The arrest affidavit states that the Corpus Christi Police Department Special Victims Unit began investigating after a report was initiated by a former Carroll High School student on Aug. 3, and an in-person interview took place Aug. 4.
The female accuser attended the former high school — now demolished — and the new high school on Saratoga Boulevard, where she said the sexual assault had happened.
Bellino was the accuser’s former teacher and wrestling coach, the affidavit states.
The accuser told detectives the sexual assault began when she was 15 years old as a high school sophomore.
The accuser said that over time Bellino would assault her regularly while they sat alone, behind his desk and in the school classroom and the abuse escalated when she was 16 years old.
The accuser recalled an instance of abuse happening on the Carroll High School campus in the storage locker room of the mat room area.
The affidavit notes the accuser told detectives Bellino preferred this location because he could hear if someone was trying to open the outer door leading to the mat room area.
The accuser told detectives that the abuse was a daily occurrence and estimated 20 instances of assault.
Detectives stated in the affidavit that they have viewed related photos and videos and have interviewed multiple people, including former students and adults, who knew both the accuser and Bellino and said they suspected inappropriate behavior.
The affidavit also notes that a separate Corpus Christi Independent School District police report from 2022 says that Bellino contacted a student at school while he was a CCISD police officer.
In that case, Bellino is alleged to have had sexual relations with a student and a relationship between them continued.
The outcome of the investigation determined that the statute of limitations had expired for the offense of improper relationship between an educator and a student.
Detectives note that Bellino is a military veteran, an experienced wrestler and coach, and trained in other martial arts, and was recently an active and licensed Texas peace officer with access to firearms.
The affidavit states there are also documented police reports of Bellino using violence outside school and at school.
Bellino was being held in the Nueces County Jail as of Aug. 20 with bail set at $1.5 million.
According to the police department, this is an active and ongoing investigation and detectives are continuing efforts to identify witnesses or possible victims.
