The city of Corpus Christi is a major employer in town, with thousands of full-time employees.
The highest paid employees are also the highest ranked, earning more in a year than the lowest-paid city employees would earn over the course of five to 10 years. Beyond role and performance, other factors that might impact pay are years of service to the city.
The Caller-Times requested salary data from the city of Corpus Christi for all full-time employees.
Here are the top 10 city of Corpus Christi employees with the highest annual base pay:
- Peter Zanoni, city manager: $409,200
- Michael Rodriguez, deputy city manager: $321,026.91
- Miles Risley, city attorney: $283,600.59 (Risley retired effective Aug. 2.)
- Sony Peronel, assistant city manager: $277,937.68
- Nicholas Winkelmann, chief operations officer of water: $270,000
- Mike Markle, police chief: $268,668
- Joseph Brice, deputy city attorney: $262,239.99
- Ernesto De La Garza, director of public works/street operations: $258,309
- Brandon Wade, fire chief: $253,991.63
- Jeffrey Edmonds, director of engineering services: $246,693.43
For full-time employees paid hourly, the highest pay amount is $57.37 per hour. This amount is earned by 10 police captains whose start dates range from 1990 to 2009.
Police department employees are paid at the some
of the highest hourly rates, followed by fire department employees.
But this hourly pay rate doesn’t include overtime pay.
The lowest-paid full-time city employees make between $14 and $15 in base pay per hour, including custodians, solid waste technicians and kitchen workers who started within the past three years.

The median pay for full-time hourly city employees is $24.29. An employee who worked 40 hours a week would earn about $50,523 in a year at this rate.
For salaried city employees, the median pay is about $75,045.
