Corpus Christi police arrested a 27-year-old man whom they described as a "documented gang member" after he was accused of physically assaulting staff of a downtown business with a rifle.
Deeandre McGee was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity, the Corpus Christi Police Department said in an online post.
Officers obtained two arrest warrants on July 29 for McGee after police received a report of aggravated assault on July 25 on the 400 block of Starr Street, the online post said.
Investigators determined McGee had arrived at the location on horseback and assaulted staff with a rifle.
Due to the violent nature of the report, the incident was investigated by the police department’s Gang Unit
and adopted by the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network.
McGee was taken into custody during a traffic stop for the two active warrants by the police department’s Violent Crimes Unit, Drone Unit and Gang Unit officers.
McGee faces additional charges of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance of 4 to 200 grams and unlawful carrying of a weapon resulting from the traffic stop, according to the online post.
A search warrant was obtained and conducted in a residence on the 1100 block of Green Leaf Drive, where officers located a rifle matching the description of the one used in the assault downtown.
McGee also faces a charge of abandoning or endangering a child intentionally, knowingly, recklessly or with criminal negligence, according to Nueces County Jail records.
McGee was being held in the jail as of July 30 on bail totaling $281,000, jail records show.
