What is the story about?

The Texas Department of Public Safety is calling on the public to help identify a vehicle involved in a pedestrian hit-and-run on County Road 44 that killed a 23-year-old Robstown woman on Sept. 12.

The DPS responded to the crash on Sept. 12 just after 3:20 a.m., a news release said. A vehicle traveling east on County Road 44 had struck two people walking in the roadway and left the scene.

Woman, 71, charged with manslaughter in Tiger Lane shooting death

Kimberly Varela suffered major injuries and was taken to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The other pedestrian, an 18-year-old from Corpus Christi, was treated at the scene.

Troopers investigating the crash believe the vehicle involved is

a white 2007-2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. It will have damage to the front end and to a headlight.

Anyone who has information on this crash is encouraged to contact DPS Corpus Christi at 361-698-5600. The crash remains under investigation by troopers from the Highway Patrol Office in Corpus Christi.
