Two mayoral candidates in Corpus Christi's City Council election are no longer in the race.
Davian Gomez and Anna Hernandez withdrew their applications, according to the city secretary’s office.
Both had been listed as candidates when there was an Aug. 21 drawing determining the order names would appear on the ballot.
Gomez withdrew Aug. 31 and Hernandez on Sept. 2, officials wrote in a Sept. 24 email to the Caller-Times.
Neither could immediately be reached for comment on their decision.
The two candidates’ departure from the ballot whittles down the candidate pool from what was originally nine candidates down to now seven.
Remaining in the mayoral race
are, by order on the ballot:
- Kaylynn Paxson
- David Ainsworth Sr.
- Paulette Guajardo (incumbent)
- Gil Hernandez
- Chelise Hyatt
- John Calkusic
- Dave Heasley
Early voting is from Oct. 19 through Oct. 30.
Election Day is Nov. 3.
