Some of Corpus Christi’s main travel routes will close Sept. 19 as about 1,500 cyclists take to the roads from early morning to mid-afternoon as part of the popular annual Conquer the Coast.
Roughly 80% of the riders are expected to travel to Corpus Christi either from elsewhere in the state or beyond, said Robert Dodd, parks and recreation director, in a Sept. 16 news conference.
Traffic pattern changes to accommodate the cyclists are expected to go into effect as early as 4 a.m. and last until around 2 p.m., according to a Sept. 18 news release issued by the city.

The event is “known as one of the most unique rides in Texas,” said Anna Aldridge, chair of the United Corpus
Christi Chamber of Commerce executive committee, in the news conference.
The chamber hosts the event.
“Conquer the Coast brings cyclists of all levels together for an unforgettable experience along the Corpus Christi Bay,” Aldridge said. “With scenic waterfront views and palm tree lined routes, this event truly is a celebration of community health and active living.”
The proceeds benefit the chamber of commerce’s nonprofit foundation, Aldridge said.
