After a lengthy manhunt, police apprehended a man in Anderson County wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing in Knoxville.
Corey Huff, 41, was captured without incident around the Hinds Creek residential area near Rosenbalm Lane, according to Anderson County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Shain Vowell.
Law enforcement closed in on Huff at roughly 11 a.m. Oct. 6 after receiving a tip that he had been spotted on foot in the area, Vowell said.
Huff was taken into custody by officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office and the Blount County Sheriff's Office.
Police were searching Huff after a stabbing at the Kenjo convenience store at 1704 N. Broadway early Oct. 4. The victim
was found outside the store and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
Huff was spotted just before 8 p.m. Oct. 4 at a gas station on Norris Freeway. An Anderson County sheriff's deputy attempted a traffic stop, KPD said in a news release, but Huff took off and led deputies on a pursuit.
The chase ended on Carden Gap Road, where Huff abandoned his truck and fled into the woods.
Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service, established a perimeter and began a search with drone support from the Knox County Sheriff's Office. Police were unable to find Huff after several hours of searching the heavily wooded area.
KPD took possession of Huff’s red 2005 Chevrolet Silverado after the chase.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued a "TBI Most Wanted" alert for Huff on Oct. 5, listing him as wanted for first-degree murder and offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to his arrest.
Police believe Huff was involved in a hit-and-run "in the area of I-40 West and I-275 in West Knoxville" shortly after the stabbing, according to a KPD news release.
