K Brew is no longer just a place to grab coffee. Soon, customers will be able to grab a box of pastries for breakfast or a loaf of bread for dinner next door to the local coffee shop's flagship location.
K Brew's new bakery and walk-in market at 1134 N. Broadway is scheduled to open at 8 a.m. Aug. 6 inside the warehouse known for the popular "Greetings from Knoxville" mural painted on the side. The art was a major selling point for K Brew CEO Pierce LaMacchia, who told Knox News he wants the bakery to be a hub for locals and tourists − a place to experience the best parts of the city.
"It feels like this is just the beginning," he said.
K Brew opened in 2013 and has grown to become one of the most recognized names in the local coffee scene, with
a fifth location expected to open in Belltown later this year. For years, the business has relied on a 500-square-foot bakery operation to supply each of its four locations with bagels.
The new warehouse is 10 times that size, LaMacchia said, meaning an exponential increase in production.
A walk-in market at the front of the warehouse is where customers will purchase items like coffee cake, blueberry muffins, Danishes, cinnamon knots and donut loaves. K Brew bread and bagels also will be available, as well as items from local vendors including pasta and rice.
The bakery's hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
