Following the death of Dolly Parton, fans have been pouring out their love for her across Tennessee. Now, Google is joining in remembering the country singer.
If you Google "Dolly Parton," which many people have likely already done today, a screen overlay featuring monarch butterflies appears with the message: "We'll always love you, 1946-2026."
An orange button with a white butterfly remains at the bottom of the screen after the message appears. Simply click it to view the overlay again.
Why Google is remembering Dolly Parton with butterflies?
Butterflies have long been a symbol associated with Parton.Butterfly imagery can be found throughout Dollywood and is even featured in the company's logo.
One of Parton's hit songs is titled "Love Is Like a Butterfly." It was released on her 1974 14th studio album
of the same name. The album cover features a smiling Parton in front of a colorful butterfly.
"Love is like a butterfly, a rare and gentle thing," Parton sings in the song.
As a child, she often got in trouble for wandering off to chase butterflies. "Butterflies don't sting, they don't bite, and they are so beautiful. And I just kind of related to them with my own personality," Parton told W magazine in 2021.
