G10 is now (partially) torn down to make way for the University of Tennessee at Knoxville's next major development, but students and fans who park there should only feel the pinch for about a year.
The eastern portion of the parking garage and tailgating hot spot is being torn down as the western portion remains standing with a new entrance from Neyland Drive. UT tore down the iconic football parking structure to build 865 Neyland, the massive new multipurpose entertainment district, right on top.
A new garage is expected to replace the demolished part by late 2027 and the entertainment district will be built above. The new garage will be rebuilt for events and provide 1,304 parking spaces, which is 124 spaces more than the demolished portion.
UT will continue managing the garage when it reopens and handle parking permits issued for students, faculty and staff during the school year, and there will be another entrance and exit plus a third lane for better access. The garage also serves fans going to Neyland Stadium and Food City Center.
The planned condo-hotel that will be built next to the garage will have its own separate parking "within the development and will not impact university parking permit allocations," according to a Tennessee Athletics media advisory.
