Knoxville marked the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks with a Memorial Stair Climb at Covenant Health Park and somber observation outside.
First responders, many in their full firefighting gear, climbed 110 flights of stairs inside the park, the same number of steps firefighters took at the World Trade Center towers. Their tribute honors those who lost their lives that day.
There were 343 New York firefighters who died that day, and each participant wears a badge honoring one of them. The stair climbs held around the country on 9/11 raise money for the families of those who died.
