Customers of Intrepid Nitro Coffee and Tea Bar have one more weekend to get their favorite caffeinated fix before the Bearden shop closes, ending a three-year run in Knoxville.
The local coffee shop announced on social media its last day at 5201 Kingston Pike will be Aug. 16, though the business will continue to operate its Hardin Valley location that opened at the beginning of the year.
"Even good things sometimes have to be released to make room for what can be more fruitful," the business posted Aug. 13. "We believe there is still so much ahead for Intrepid. We believe in what we’ve created, in the community that has gathered around it, and in the vision we have for what it can become."
The post said Intrepid hopes to return to Bearden soon
and is actively searching for a new location in the neighborhood. In the comments, customers expressed disappointment about the closure but encouragement for the shop's next chapter.
"Oh man. I hope that this closing ends up opening a door to something even bigger than you imagined," one person commented. "Looking forward to seeing what’s next and visiting you in Hardin Valley in the meantime."
Kris and Season Bowers opened Intrepid in 2023 after being inspired by a Christmas present they exchanged a few years prior, Knox News previously reported. The gift from Season to Kris was a keg that mixes nitrogen with beverages to enhance texture and flavor, which they used as a foundation for a business concept that was new to the Knoxville market: "craft nitro drinks."
The Bearden shop's hours for Saturday and Sunday are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The other location at 11432 Hardin Valley Road will continue to operate with the same weekend hours and 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
