Dollywood duo and sisters Ferryn and Brinkley Wright kicked off the Battle rounds of “The Voice” season 30. While their performance earned praise from the judges, it left their coach Riley Green with a tough decision and someone with a “broken heart.”
“The Voice” coaches completed the blind auditions and filled their teams during the Oct. 6 episode. The competition immediately jumped into the Battle rounds, which pits contestants on the same team head-to-head for a duet performance – or in Ferryn and Brinkley’s case, a trio.
Green’s team was first up. He paired the sister duo from Sevierville with country-pop singer Brandy Neelly. Green anticipated a great performance, but he wasn’t looking forward to it, knowing he would ultimately have to lose
one of his contestants.

What did Ferryn and Brinkley perform as their ‘battle’ song?
Green chose Miranda Lambert’s 2011 song “Mama’s Broken Heart”for Ferryn and Brinkley and Neelly to perform together. Coincidently, former Dollywood performer Carly Pearce was their special mentor and advisor, alongside Green.
“Voice” coach and first “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson praised the Wright sisters’ harmony.
“Ferryn and Brinkley, you’re so tight and cool and special,” Clarkson said. “You’ve got the whole little package going on.”
Coaches Queen Latifah and Adam Levine added that the sisters were “locked in” and did a “great job.”
Did Ferryn and Brinkley advance to the next round on ‘The Voice’?
But was it enough to push Neelly out of the competition?
“This is going to be painful for me either way,” Green said when it was time to pick a winner.
“(But) the winner of this battle is Ferryn and Brinkley,” he continued.
“I had to go with Ferryn and Brinkley because they’ve got a really strong chance of making it past cut week and they’re the only duo on the show,” Green explained. “The fact that they can sing together and their harmonies are so tight is what really makes them something that could be a real contender on ‘The Voice.’”
Ferryn and Brinkley will now advance to the new “Cut Week,” when coaches will be forced to eliminate half their team based on performances. Those performances will air once the Battle round is complete for all teams.
You can watch new episodes of “The Voice” 8 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC. Episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
