Billy Amick, the third baseman on Tennessee baseball's 2024 national championship team, was traded from the Minnesota Twins to the New York Mets ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
Amick and infield prospect Bruin Agbayani were sent to the Mets in exchange for left-handed reliever A.J. Minter on July 31.
Amick played his first two college seasons at Clemson. His appearances were sparse in 2022, but in 2023 he was a first-team All-American after hitting .413 with 13 home runs, 17 doubles two triples and 63 RBIs in 46 games.
Amick transferred to Tennessee ahead of the 2024 season and was an integral piece of the Vols' securing their first national championship. As the starting third baseman, he finished the season with a .306 batting average, 23 homers
and 65 RBIs.
Amick was a fan favorite with the 1981 hit “The Stroke” by Billy Squier as his walk-up song. Fans would clap their hands over their heads to the booming beat every time Amick walked to the plate.
Amick was picked No. 60 overall by the Twins in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft as the third of eight Vols selected that year.
In 165 career minor league games across three seasons, Amick has a batting average of .253 with 31 homers and 114 RBIs. He's spent all of the 2026 season in Double-A, where he's hitting .222 but has flashed his power with 24 home runs and 14 doubles in 88 games. Amick now plays for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Mets' Double-A affiliate.
Before the trade, Amick ranked as Minnesota’s No. 21 prospect. He is not currently ranked among the Mets' top 30 prospects.
