Dolly Parton wants to be celebrated in the same way she lived: by giving back.
Fans who want to honor the icon’s life can do so by donating to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the free book program Parton launched in 1995 to promote childhood literacy.
“Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging @DollyParton or by leaving a message at dollyparton.com,” according to a post on her official Instagram account. “In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at www.imaginationlibrary.com.”
It should be noted that dollyparton.com was not fully loading when Knox News checked at 4:15 p.m. Aug. 25, in the hours after Parton’s death
was announced. However, the Imagination Library was loading.
At Parton’s request, her immediate family will hold a small, private service for the star, according to the Instagram message. Parton died at age 80 on Aug. 25 in Nashville.
Dollywood, Parton’s theme park, is paying tribute to its Dreamer-in-Chief.
“Dolly’s heart was as vast as the mountains she cherished, and her compassion knew no bounds. She inspired generations to dream boldly and love deeply,” Dollywood Parks & Resorts President Eugene Naughton said in a statement.
“While we grieve her loss, we are honored and committed to carry her light forward. Her legacy will continue to shine in every melody sung, every smile shared and every dream kindled within these gates,” Naughton added.
Dollywood's statement noted that "Dolly’s heartfelt wish was that Dollywood always remain a place of joy, hope and togetherness - a space where families and friends could honor her memory, not with silence, but with laughter, music and shared dreams."
