Bubble gum, bubble gum in a dish. Is this groovy pink house in South Knoxville your wish? If it is, then we've got good news; it's for sale.
This perfectly pastel historic home is "coming soon," and listed for $400,000 on Zillow.com as of Aug. 17. The striking exterior is pink stucco, with inside walls that match. Its other features include the Italian tile fireplace, touches of Candoro Marble Company marble throughout and arched wall nooks with the original candle-style lamps inside them.
The house, located at 3422 Glenhurst Road, is in the Lindbergh Forest Historic District. Developed around 1929, the neighborhood is on the National Register of Historic Places, and this home is listed specifically on the nomination form. The subdivision is known
for its Tudor Revival houses and mature trees. Many of the homes feature elements of local marble.
Pretty in pink on Glenhurst Road
With its unexpected color and retro touches, this 2,047-square-foot home is like a vintage, South Knoxville version of the Barbie Dreamhouse. The register nomination form describes the style as "Chateauesque with Spanish Colonial influence."
It was built in approximately 1929 as the neighborhood itself was coming up, and the house has historic touches that reflect that, from the cedar-lined closets to the bas-relief lion on the outside. That Candoro marble creates designs outside the house, plus some rooms have marble floors and the full bathroom has floor-to-ceiling marble.
Other components that make this house special are the balconette upstairs, accessible via French doors, and original built-ins in the sitting room and breakfast room. An additional fireplace is on the second floor.
In total, the house has four bedrooms, one half bathroom and one full bathroom across its two stories. The lot is .4 acres.
